Econometrics evaluation takes the form of a report replicating a research paper, strongly based on empirical data and econometric analysis. If the sanitary situation allows, a defense will be organized.
The report presents the individual work of the student across the semester, under the supervision of the professor: the professor provides a data set and guides the student trough the replication. Here is an exemple.
Report: Main matter of the report has length 10 to 15 sheets. The report presents the usual characteristics of a research paper: Title, abstract, introduction, parts, conclusion and bibliography. It must include
- an short abstract of the replicated paper results
- a short presentation of the databases (compustat and WIOD)
- choose a variable of one of these databases and study it from a quantification perspective. Here is an example of discussion on the quantification (part V, page 18+).
- replicate figures 1, 2 and 5 (only the scatter plots)
- replicate the GMM panel model, at least in the specification of the 4th column of table 6, p. 24. That the Financialization and offshoring model, with all the companies.
The R script used should not be in the main matter of the report but can be provided as an appendix. You should explicietely quote the original paper you are replicating each time it’s usefull and discuss it.
Defense under Covid: No defense, the grade will be only based on the report, except if the professor needs additionnal information on the report of some students. In such a case, no presentation is necessary, each student will just be asked the specific questions needed to evaluate more precisely her/his report.
Deadlines:
- The report must be return by January, the 20th
Evaluation for guided work students:
- Extension, form of the report and results: 40%
- Technical control of the method and data: 40%
- Professor’ evaluation of the process all along the semester: 20%
